Classic chair '214' of the Thonet brothers

Ever since Michael Thonet invented the bending of solid wood, his family's name has been associated with the production of furniture of high quality and elegance.

The famous 'coffee house chair' Thonet 214 is an icon and is still considered to be one of the most successful industrial products in the world today. The history of modern furniture began with it.

The basis was a new technique: the bending of solid wood, which Michael Thonet perfected in the 1850s and thus made series production possible in the first place. And there was an ingenious sales idea: 36 disassembled chairs were packed in a box with one cubic metre, sent all over the world and assembled on site.

With its clearly reduced aesthetics, I particularly like the classic with its seat made of reinforced wickerwork. The latter, as well as the beautiful curves of the backrest and the chair legs, make the chair feminine light. Ergonomically, it also adapts very comfortably to my back.

I find it particularly beautiful in its light version at my fine bistro table in the kitchen, where it brings in charm and coffee house grandeur. But also in black stained beech the classic fits perfectly into almost all living environments and gives them classic charm.
