Panton Chair

The very first chair in the history of design from a single mould - that is the famous Panton Chair.

The Danish designer Verner Panton designed the chair in 1960 and developed it together with 'Vitra' seven years later to series production. It was the first all-plastic chair made in one piece and thus an achievement of its time. However, it was to take another 30 years before the chair could be produced in accordance with its basic idea - made of solid-coloured, hard-wearing plastic with a matt-finish surface. The chair achieves a unique seating comfort through its organically curved shape, its nature as a cantilever chair and the slightly flexible material.

I like the chair not only because it is a unique piece at the dining table in my home, but also because it exudes that incomparable vintage futuristic charm.

An icon of furniture history as it is written in the book.
